the body that dances with itself
belly is a performative response to Jeanette Winterson’s novel Written on the Body, a love story wherein the narrator’s gender is never specified. belly finds its performative abyss in the purgatory between binaries, the binary of audience and performer, performer and shadow, Rebecca’s body to her brother’s voice, male to female, action to reaction. belly attempts to touch something shared, something at the center of it all, a lust beyond certainty. Dualism is a cage that can be played with, broken open and used as a structure of exploration.
